Local Universe, Series
Concept
Local Universe is an animated digital art series that explores the concept of limits. Each piece features three key elements: the edge, the actor, and a basic visual component. The edge symbolizes both the physical boundary set by the speed of light and the philosophical limits of our understanding. The actor drives the edge, acting as a stand-in for a human who is always in motion. The basic visual component is a sphere, inspired by the idea that the edge of the universe appears spherical to any observer, yet slightly different depending on the viewer's position.
The series also touches on simulation theory. Having spent my life working with computers, I've run countless simple simulations. If we ever have the power to simulate an entire universe, we will likely strive to improve and optimize that simulation. In this context, the edge represents the expanding scale of our computing power and technological progress.
Local Universe invites viewers to consider various types of limits—those found in the physical world, in our knowledge, and in technology. It demonstrates that while limits shape our behavior, they also open up opportunities for innovation and new ideas.
